Recommended Resources...
There are literally thousands of sites on the web which are concerned with our subject! Just type 'Genealogy websites' or 'Ancestry websites' into Google, or your own personal favourite search engine, and you will find thousands of results.
This can be quite confusing and it can take hours to get anywhere... plus there is quite a real chance of your coming up with incorrect information!
So let me recommend some trustworthy website destinations...
| First let me point you in the way of a free genealogy research website... http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl for birth, marriage, and death records from 1837 to 1920.
Next, a 'paid for' resource which covers the same dates as the previous website, but also covers all census information within that period of time... http://www.ancestry.co.uk
If you cannot trace your tree back as far as the 1901 census then you could well need to join http://www.thegenealogist.co.uk [pay by monthly subscription]. This website has full birth, death, and marriage details covering 1837-2005, plus census information. If something is missing in the previously mentioned resources, you could well find it here!
If you intend to create a family tree to pass down the generations... then it is worth thinking about buying the software necessary to organize the tree properly, especially if it is quite a large and complicated one. There are many programmes available, but if you want to obtain a first-class programme for well under £20... then my recommendation must be... http://www.rootsmagic.co.uk.
Obtaining Birth or Marriage Certificates from the General Register Office can both verify the information you have obtained, and put you on the right road to find more of your relatives... a Birth Certificate will give you the name, surname and occupation of the father and the name, surname, and maiden name of the mother, together with their address. A Marriage Certificate will give the date of the marriage, the name and surname of those getting married, their rank or profession, and addresses, at the time of the marriage, and also the names, surnames and rank or professions of their respective fathers. These facts should take you further back in your research quite easily.
If you wish to go further back in your research, or you don't want to pay out for membership of the professional research websites mentioned above - or spend the time on 'doing it yourself', or you are experiencing difficulties... our professional research service may be your best way forward --- Just use our contact form for details of the service.
